Sore Sight is a new work from SPAWNKISS, the long-standing producer title for Toronto-based composer, Kvesche A. Bijons. Fellow co-inspirator, Special Costello, from Halifax, joins him for this cosmic, hadopelagic pop anthem. SPAWNKISS’ musical background is versatile, ranging from far-reaching collaborations with Lido Pimienta - earning a Polaris Prize for production on the album La Papessa - as well as production with Mother Tongues’ seminal work Everything You Wanted, sound design installation work in Luminato & beyond all while touring the world in support of various artists. SPAWNKISS dives far into the odd distances of the unlimited and could show up in any shape or form. On the horizon lie landscapes and auras of sonic rhythm unknown to any creature, and to be unraveled with time.
Special Costello is adrift on a churning mass of questions. They sing to the changes of the universe in vain. Once they had their chops on display, Special Costello has performed alongside Beverly Glenn-Copeland, Fiver, and Aquakultre to name a few.
SPAWNKISS’ reflections on this tune:
“Glide through the pounding silence of the seabed, woodwinds dancing to the sway of sunken kelp forest lagoons. Lie down and calcify, listen to the vast ocean outside your shell, letting lush subaquatic synth-scapes wash over. A simple truth is revealing itself in this song. A heart-piercing transparency that not even the thickest ink shroud could obfuscate. It provides a break in the churning and thrashing of the ocean surface – one that claims human bodies and minds. We bury truths only knowing they will and must be revealed. Can transparency reconcile the precarious existences of biological ilk abroad? Or ensure the same fate playing out before all eyes. We pace around the great unknown.”
